âWhat are you doing?â
Eliot sleepily opened one eye the next morning and watched me use my deft fingers to maneuver around his phone.
âIs that my phone?â
I froze, briefly wondering whether Iâd crossed a line I didnât see when I gave up trying to sleep two hours earlier. âAre you going to be angry if it is your phone?â
âI donât know,â Eliot said, rubbing his eyes. âOn one hand, Iâm mildly turned on that youâre still naked, so Iâm probably willing to overlook the privacy invasion. On the other hand, itâs not even nine on a Saturday and I canât remember you ever being up this early on a weekend. Wait ⦠why are you on my phone?â
âIâm looking at the listings that real estate agent sent you,â I answered. âI Googled her, by the way. Weâre going to have to find a different real estate agent. Sheâs too pretty.â
Eliot snorted. âIâm glad to see youâre excited, but ⦠itâs early. Go back to sleep.â
âI canât sleep. I have too much on my mind.â
Eliot frowned. âDo you have good or bad things on your mind? Wait ⦠Iâm not sure I want to know. Go back to sleep.â
âI canât sleep,â I replied. âI need to work a few things out. I can do that while looking at the houses Sheila sent. I told you she has to go, right?â
Eliot sighed. âSheâs a clientâs sister, so she canât go,â he said. âI promise to wear a T-shirt with your photo on it when sheâs around, though. That will let her know that Iâm taken ⦠in case sheâs really stupid and doesnât realize that searching for a house with a woman already means Iâm taken. Go back to sleep.â
Eliot wrapped his hand around the back of my head and tried to press my cheek against his chest.
âYou donât have to get up,â I said, jerking away. âI need to think.â
Eliot made a fake whimpering sound. âWhat are you thinking about? If youâre changing your mind about moving in together Iâm going to tie you to the bed until you change it back.â
âIâm not thinking about that,â I said. âIâm excited about that.â
âReally?â Eliot smirked. âYouâre kind of cute when youâre excited. Go back to sleep and Iâll reward you with something fun in a few hours when we wake up again.â
âI canât do that,â I said. âI need to get my story back.â
âI thought you got your story back.â
âMacDonald said he had to look at my documents and then he would give me my story back,â I clarified. âI want it back now.â
âWhy? Itâs Saturday.â
âI missed out on several days of leads,â I said. âI need to get back on track. Sierra Jackson is still out there. We need to find her.â
âNow youâre going to find her?â Eliot widened his eyes and shook his head. âDo you think maybe youâre getting too involved in this?â
I scorched him with a look. âDo you think Iâm getting too involved?â
âI think youâre adorable and Iâm not going to argue no matter what you do,â Eliot replied.
